But the Octopus is not just a token sea animal, that is aesthetically beautiful and intriguingly intelligent to me. The females are mothers who quite literally give their lives for their offspring. A behaviour that is both profound and beautifully sad. So many parallels can be drawn between their self sacrifice and the lives of many human mothers."
